"I learned to play guitar the way a child learns to speak..." "Paco de Lucía", the best flamenco guitarist

"I learned to play guitar the way a child learns to speak..."

"Paco de Lucía", the best flamenco guitarist of all time, plays out of a special need.

Music came to him in a natural way and he made it his own language, a personal language which he never stopped enriching and developing.

Because for "Paco de Lucía" music is a vital necessity.

Francisco Sánchez, the boy who went on stage at the age of eight to accompany his brother's singing, soon became "Paco de Lucía", the genius of flamenco guitar. Until Paco came along the stars of flamenco were always the singers and dancers. It took "Paco de Lucía" to make flamenco guitar an art unto itself. At the age of 15 he took his mother's name, Lucía, to make it his professional name, one which is known the world over. His artistic career has been unstoppable ever since.

Daniel Hernández' documentary, produced by ALEA TV in cooperation with TVE and ARTE includes the exclusive participation of Paco de Lucía.

Paco has long lived secluded in the jungles of Mexico where he devotes his time to composing and resting up from his grueling tours. For the first and last time, as he says, he has allowed a film crew to accompany him in his private life; we went to his house, we went to fish with him, we went shopping and even went into his kitchen to watch him prepare dinner for his friends. His day-to-day routine in Mexico and his latest European tour form the basis of the film. This back-and-forth between the man and the star are also what make up Paco de Lucía's life.

The documentary is an intimist vision of this legend of the flamenco guitar, and a living portrait of the artist. We hear Paco playing in concert, we see the most complete collection of images with Camarón de la Isla, John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola and Manuel de Falla. The documentary also includes interviews with his lifelong friends, great musicians like Chic Corea and flamenco guitarists he has influenced like Vicente Amigo and Tomatito.

'Francisco Sánchez, Paco de Lucía', the definitive documentary of the legend of flamenco guitar not only supplies all the information about his life and work, but is also an intimate never-before-seen portrait that lets us "feel" and understand the man behind the myth, the human being that lives in the shadow of a world-famous genius.
