“Cádiz” (Spanish Suite – I. Albéniz) Transcription to guitar Piece belonging to the work of Isaac Albéniz “Spanish Suite” Op. 47 composed for piano in 1886 in honor of the Queen of Spain, and where a tour of different Spanish cities
Currently known as part of the Spanish Suite, it was not until after Albéniz’s death when its editor, Hofmesiter decided to insert it between the movements of the suite.
Originally written in the tone of Re b Mayor, it is in La M where its adaptation for guitar is best defended; this tone of La M, in addition, confers that light and joy so characteristic of the Atlantic city.
Although it has the subtitle of Saeta or Song, it is the stick of cantiñas that opens the theme followed by a more nostalgic central part, that if in the form of a song.
As in other of his piano works, he breathes and sublimates the echo of the Spanish guitar as much as Camprudón’s teacher likes.
Cádiz is a song in which we hear on the piano the strumming of the guitar, entrusted to the left hand, while the right one sings the song in a simple design. The central part, in minor mode, puts a point of soft melancholy. This transcription to guitar by José María Gallardo Del Rey has been based on the maximum respect of the work of the master Isaac Albéniz.
