Guitarra Matthias Dammann - 2005

Exceptional opportunity: a 2005 Matthias Dammann guitar in excellent condition, with all its original parts and only minor signs of use.

Matthias Dammann, born in Germany in 1951, is one of the most influential luthiers in the world of contemporary classical guitar. Although he initially studied music and worked as a guitarist, he soon discovered a deep fascination for instrument making. In the late 1970s, he began dedicating himself professionally to lutherie, developing over the decades an experimental approach that would lead him to revolutionize the modern classical guitar. His workshop, located in Germany, gradually became an international reference point, especially from the 1990s onward, when his innovations began receiving worldwide recognition and demand.

Dammann is considered the pioneer of the “double-top” guitar, a technique he introduced in the early 1990s. This method consists of building the soundboard from two very thin layers of wood with an inner core made of a lightweight material, usually Nomex, forming a sandwich-type structure.

The aim of this technique is to achieve an extremely light yet rigid soundboard capable of vibrating more efficiently than a traditional top. This innovation provides greater projection, sensitivity, and responsiveness without compromising structural stability. Dammann refines every detail of the process, adjusting the thickness and internal distribution of the materials to achieve an optimal balance of power, control, and tonal richness.

Matthias Dammann’s guitars are appreciated worldwide for their exceptional volume, immediate response, and their ability to project a full, balanced sound with a wide dynamic range. They offer clarity of attack, long sustain, and a warm, well-defined timbre—qualities that have made them preferred instruments for concerts in large halls.

In terms of construction, they stand out for their lightness, meticulously crafted finish, and the artisanal precision that guarantees stability and longevity. The combination of technical innovation and traditional craftsmanship places his guitars among the finest in the world.

Among the most renowned guitarists who have played or currently play Dammann guitars are figures such as David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Sergio and Odair Assad, Tilman Hoppstock, Pablo Sáinz Villegas, Margarita Escarpa, and other performers of contemporary repertoire who value the power and tonal flexibility offered by the double-top design.
