Presentación of the Book "Guitar Ergonomics" by Martín Pedreira
Martín Pedreira (Havana, 1952). He studied guitar with Isaac Nicola and Leo Brouwer, and has been teaching since 1975. He has conducted studies didactic and guitar technique in relation to physiology, in which he obtained a Master’s degree in 2002, and later, a PhD in Arts (2007).
As a composer, he has also focused on the guitar. In 1987 he won the National Composition Prize of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba with his series of didactic pieces Divertimentos I.
Pedreira has been Associate Professor of Music at the University of Arts in Havana for many years. He is coauthor with his teacher, Isaac Nicola (1916-1997) of a Guitar Method in four volumes (Atril Editions, Havana, 2000), which is included in the syllabus officially adopted by the National System of Artistic Education in Cuba.
He is also the author of two theoretical books: History of the Guitar (Museum of Music Editions, Havana, 2018), and Guitar Ergonomics: A Wholistic Perspective of Technique through Repertoire (Mel Bay Publications Inc., 2021).
