One of the most distinguished classical guitarists of the new generation, Slovenian-born Sanja Plohl has captured audiences with soulful interpretations and "an excellent technique, temperament, refinement and exceptional music maturity" (newspaper Ve?er, 2009). Praised by the critics for her outstanding musical expression, Sanja's long list of international awards includes first prizes at Córdoba Guitar Festival, Ivor Mairants Award (London), Seville International Guitar Competition, L'Arjau competition for all instruments (Barcelona), Festival Guitarmania (Lisbon), competitions "Ciudad de Llerena" (Extremadura) and "Comarca el Condado" (Jaén), as well as the audience awards at the "Miguel Llobet" (Barcelona) and "Luys Milan" (Valencia) competitions.
Ms. Plohl has given recitals at important venues and music festivals in cities like London, Athens, Istanbul, Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, Sevile, The Hague, Bournemouth, Vienna or Ljubljana. In addition to her numerous chamber music collaborations she has also performed as a soloist with Spanish, German and Dutch orquestras. Her first CD "Danseuse dans Grenade", released by Iberia Classical Label in 2012, was met with positive press and media reviews.
Her extensive repertoire covers music from the Renaissance to the present day and includes thematic recitals of Latin American, Spanish, Catalan, Andalusian and Jewish composers. She also collaborates with composers and has premiered more than twenty of their new works. Apart from performing, Sanja has shared her knowledge and experience in masterclasses, lectures and didactic concerts in Spain, Slovenia, Turkey and The Netherlands.
